Abbott Park, IL-based Abbott Laboratories and Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble Co. have been named in Fortune magazine's annual list of the "50 Best Companies for Minorities."

To compile the list, Fortune surveyed 1,000 companies and the 200 largest privately held firms. Companies were judged on more than a dozen measures, including their overall diversity programs, management accountability, number of minority workers, number of minority workers who are future management candidates, implementation of a formal mentoring program for minorities, level of purchasing from minority-owned firms, and charitable contributions to programs or organizations that primarily benefit minorities.

Said Miles D. White, chairman and chief executive officer of Abbott, "Fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace has helped us cultivate a more innovative and welcoming environment that makes us a better employer, business partner and corporate citizen." PR
