Insilico Medicine and China Medical System Holdings Limited (CMS) announced an AI-powered drug discovery collaboration, targeting a mass-market central nervous system indication using a novel mechanism of action identified by Insilico's PandaOmics platform.

The deal comes just three months after the two companies announced their initial partnership and signals the broadening of a relationship described by both companies as “seamless” since its inception.¹

Lam Kong, chairman, chief executive officer, president and executive director of CMS, pointed to the strategic fit between the two organizations. "Insilico Medicine's leadership in AI drug discovery platforms and data-driven R&D is strategically complementary to CMS's capabilities in innovative R&D and clinical translation," Kong said. "Our goal never changes: to accelerate the delivery of more clinically meaningful innovations to patients with greater speed and quality, better meeting the growing clinical needs."

What are the details of the agreement?

Under the terms of the agreement, both parties will jointly advance co-development of the drug discovery program, combining Insilico's generative AI drug discovery platform with CMS's R&D team and therapeutic expertise.¹ As part of the agreement, Insilico is eligible to receive up to approximately $177 million in milestone payments plus royalties.¹

What does each party bring?

The collaboration is structured around complementary capabilities across the drug development value chain, with Insilico contributing its AI platform, including PandaOmics the platform that identified the CNS mechanism of action underlying this program, along with its broader drug discovery and development infrastructure.¹ On the other hand, CMS brings clinical development systems, regulatory submission expertise and a commercialization network, positioning the partnership to move from early discovery through to market access.

Why does the deal matter?

Insilico and CMS’ deal adds to a growing body of AI-enabled drug discovery partnerships being struck between platform companies and established commercial operators. For Insilico, this marks the second collaboration with CMS in quick succession, reinforcing both the productivity of its platform and its strategy of pairing computational drug discovery with partners who can carry programs through development and commercialization.²

The CMS deal is also the latest in a string of high-value collaborations for Insilico in 2026, as in January the company announced its $120 million drug discovery collaboration with Qilu Pharmaceuticals to advance cardiometabolic therapies, and also entered a $2.75 billion research and licensing agreement with Eli Lilly to advance drug discovery. Most recently, in June, Insilico announced a collaboration with SK Biopharmaceuticals worth up to $2.5 billion targeting neuroimmune disorders.

Taken together, the deals signal that Insilico has shifted from a platform-building phase into an active out-licensing and co-development model, with total potential deal values now running into the billions across multiple therapeutic areas.
