The two organizations will provide multi-modal learning experiences, opportunities to work with peers, and more.
The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems (AMDIS) are entering into an exclusive partnership that combines both organizations global networks of health professionals. This will improve educational resources available members of both organizations that will help them adapt to digital transformation.1
The agreement builds upon the companies’ decades long relationship, combining HIMSS’ ecosystem of 125,000 individuals, 430+ provider organizations, 500+ nonprofit partners, and 550+ health services organizations with the thought and opinion leaders that make up AMDIS’ membership.1
Beyond a multi-modal educational offering, the expanded collaboration offers members additional benefits, such as opportunities for collaborative work on public policy and networking opportunities. The organizations have agreed to continue to support the HIMSS-AMDIS Physician Executive Award, as well as explore other ideas to further strengthen both of their communities.
"Through our partnership with AMDIS, we are creating a trusted network that enables physicians and health system executives to collaborate and share insights that will transform the future of the global health ecosystem, ultimately improving care delivery and patient outcomes," said Hal Wolf, president & CEO of HIMSS, in the press release. "Digital health transformation is rapidly accelerating, and this partnership will provide the tools and resources clinical leaders need to lead and support advanced infrastructures and stay at the forefront of health innovation."
The collaboration also includes to develop and cross-promote healthcare conferences with a focus on programs for clinician executives. Both organizations have existing conferences, such as the HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition and the AMDIS Physician-Computer Connection Symposium.1
"We are excited to enter into this new phase of collaboration with HIMSS," said Richard L. Rydell, CEO of AMDIS, in the release. "By combining our expertise in clinical informatics with HIMSS's global influence in health technology, we can offer unprecedented educational opportunities and tools for physician leaders, ensuring they are equipped to globally advance patient care and outcomes through education, networking, and content development."
The partnership will initially focus on North America with plans to expand internationally.1
HIMSS launched veteran focused initiative in mid-November 2024. Veterans Community helps veterans of any brand on the US military develop their skills and transition them into healthcare IT positions.2 Veterans who are not currently HIMSS members will receive a free year-long membership, as well as be enrolled in their local HIMSS Chapter. With this support, HIMSS aims to make the transition to civilian life easier on military members and their partners, giving them a pipeline to earning a good living, providing health benefits for their families, and finding career growth post service.
"Our decision to launch a dedicated HIMSS community for veterans reflects a larger conversation happening across the health ecosystem about improved access to care and workforce development," said Tom Leary, HIMSS senior vice president & head of government relations. "It is vital that veterans have better access to resources and opportunities that help them embrace digital health transformation to better manage their care and start careers in the health industry."
