Pathos Ai Enters Drug Development Collaboration with Bristol Myers Squibb and Tempus Ai

Pathos AI launches multi-year collaborations to build an AI-driven dataset for Alzheimer’s and other neurological diseases.

Pathos AI has announced multi-year strategic collaborations with Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) and Tempus AI, Inc. to build a specialized, curated dataset and agentic AI capabilities for Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological conditions.

Along with the drug development collaboration, BMS is also leading Pathos’s Series E financing round and is set to gain access to Pathos’ Foundry platform across its broader R&D portfolio.1,2

Pathos frames the neuroscience collaborations as the convergence of data, computing, and drug-development expertise. “Neurological diseases demand more than any one company can bring on its own: the best longitudinal data, AI that can reason over it at scale, and the drug development expertise to turn insight into medicines,” says Iker Huerga, CEO of Pathos AI. “Intelligence alone does not bring a therapy to market. These collaborations bring all three together. We are thrilled to deepen our work with Tempus and proud to have BMS leading our Series E as we build a self-learning drug development system designed to adapt clinical trials and improve the likelihood of success.”

What will each partner contribute?

Tempus is expected to apply the infrastructure and expertise it has built in oncology to create a comprehensive, de-identified, longitudinal dataset drawn from hundreds of thousands of patients with neurological conditions, designed to track outcomes over time and accelerate biological insight for the collaboration, with Pathos licensing the data from Tempus under a five-year, $55 million agreement.1 Pathos will then apply its AI platform, Foundry, to interrogate the dataset at scale, generate and test hypotheses on disease biology, and inform the design of more targeted, adaptive clinical trials, an approach the company built and validated in oncology, where it guides decisions across its clinical-stage pipeline, including real-time adjustments to trial design intended to improve projected probability of success.

As part for the deal, BMS is set to help expand the application of Pathos Foundry into neuroscience, securing three-year exclusive rights in an area where the company brings research and clinical-development expertise along with a growing portfolio of programs in Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological conditions. Through multi-year access to the platform across its broader portfolio and the specialized dataset developed under the agreements, BMS is aiming to generate deeper insights into disease progression, identify patients most likely to benefit from potential therapies, and design more precise clinical trials.1

Tempus CEO Eric Lefkofsky emphasizes the scale required to make progress against Alzheimer’s disease. “Making meaningful progress against a disease as devastating as Alzheimer’s requires unprecedented data scale and computing power,” he says. “These collaborations unite BMS’s deep expertise, Pathos’s drug development agentic AI and Tempus’ data infrastructure. Together, we have a unique opportunity to uncover novel insights and accelerate much-needed treatments for Alzheimer’s patients.”

How is the Series E financing structured?

Separate from the collaboration, Pathos AI secured $237 million in its Series E round, valuing the U.S.-based biotechnology company at approximately $3 billion post-money.2 BMS led the round, with additional capital from existing investors, with Pathos saying it will use the proceeds to scale Foundry and advance four active clinical cancer programs, including, AZD4241, DO-2, JSKN016, and pocenbrodib.2

The company also maintains clinical programs targeting ER-positive/HER2-negative breast cancer, MET-altered non-small-cell lung cancer, and solid tumors expressing TROP2/HER3.2

BMS points to the investment as part of a broader data-science strategy. “AI has the greatest potential when it is grounded in high-quality data and applied by scientists with deep understanding of diseases and drug development,” says Simon Davies, SVP, head of data and quantitative sciences at Bristol Myers Squibb. “Our investment in Pathos reflects our commitment to applying advanced AI and data science across research and development to accelerate innovation for patients. By combining AI-driven insights with our neuroscience expertise, we hope to deepen our understanding of disease progression, improve clinical-trial design and ultimately advance new treatment options.”

What’s next?

The three-year exclusivity window gives BMS a defined runway to apply Pathos Foundry across its neuroscience portfolio before the arrangement’s terms come up for renewal or expansion, while Pathos’s five-year data-licensing agreement with Tempus locks in a longer-term supply of longitudinal patient data to train and refine its models.
