Alnylam Pharmaceuticals has partnered with Inceptive to apply generative AI to siRNA design, pairing Inceptive's biology-trained models with Alnylam's two decades of proprietary RNAi data to accelerate candidate discovery.

Alnylam Pharmaceuticals entered a strategic collaboration with Inceptive to integrate generative AI into its RNA interference drug discovery process.

The collaboration is designed to accelerate the discovery of novel RNAi therapeutics as Alnylam works toward its Alnylam 2030 pipeline expansion goals.1

What is Inceptive's AI platform?

Inceptive builds AI systems trained to learn the underlying patterns of life and apply them across therapeutic modalities without retraining for each new application. In joint exploratory work conducted ahead of the deal, Inceptive's model achieved what both companies describe as exceptional performance within weeks, generating meaningful biological insights from relatively small datasets to characterize siRNA molecules, the active ingredient in RNAi therapeutics.1

The collaboration is expected to focus specifically on advancing siRNA design by modeling target messenger RNAs, exploring novel chemical modifications to enhance potency and efficacy, and predicting top-performing therapeutic candidates in preclinical models. The goal is to help Alnylam identify the most promising molecules earlier and improve overall experimental productivity1.

"Most drug design still works through a process of trial and error, testing thousands of molecules and hoping something sticks," said Jakob Uszkoreit, co-founder and CEO of Inceptive. "Inceptive was built on a different premise: that life follows rules of such complexity that only AI can learn them. Alnylam's breakthrough platform and scientific vision are an ideal match for AI. Together, we're not just accelerating drug discovery; we're changing the way we understand and improve life."

What are the details of the deal?

Under the terms of the agreement, Alnylam will provide $30 million in upfront consideration, including cash and an equity purchase in Inceptive, in a deal valued at an estimated $2 billion.1 Inceptive will also be eligible to receive additional payments tied to preclinical, regulatory, and commercial sales milestones.

Why does this collaboration matter for RNAi?

Alnylam’s previous experience working with RNAi therapeutics has assisted the company in building an R&D engine that has produced six approved drugs which are backed by more than 20 years of proprietary siRNA data.1 The company has continued to invest in its RNAi therapeutics capabilities as in December 2025, the company invested over $250 million into its Massachusetts facility to meeting the growing global demand for the therapy.2

The depth of biological data from Alnylam matches the foundation on which Inceptive's models are designed to operate, making the partnership appear to be a natural fit between a platform that has proven itself clinically and an AI system built to generalize across sequence-based medicines.1

"We're thrilled to partner with Inceptive to push the boundaries of what is possible in the discovery of RNAi medicines," said Yvonne Greenstreet, MD, chief executive officer of Alnylam. "Together, we have an extraordinary opportunity to accelerate the creation of transformative medicines with a speed, ingenuity, and sophistication that simply has not been possible before."

The collaboration also gives Alnylam access to Inceptive's broader AI talent, including Uszkoreit, who is a co-inventor of the Transformer architecture, the foundational technology underlying large language models including ChatGPT, as well as pioneers in scalable, AI-enabled wet-lab training data generation methods.1
