Companies across the pharma industry are exploring ways to implement AI-based technology. One area where many believe the technology has shown promise is in early detection. By being able to identify patterns that humans would struggle to notice, the technology has the potential to provide doctors with early warnings of conditions and diseases before the symptoms begin to truly manifest and cause serious, and potentially long-lasting, damage to the patient.

Key Takeaways

  • AI has shown promise is in early disease and symptom detection.
  • Linus Health announced an expansion of its AI platform Anywhere, which is used to provide brain health solutions across the pharma-patient spectrum.
  • Linus also announced a partnership with healthcare consumer platform League in order to further expand its online cognitive screening and care options.

Linus Health announced an expansion of its AI platform Anywhere, which is used to provide brain health solutions across the pharma-patient spectrum.1 The remote platform is now available to a wider network of partners and use cases.

The platform provides options for:

  • Payers
  • Pharma companies
  • Wellness providers
  • Consumers

In a press release, Linus Health CEO David Bates, PhD, said, “Early detection of cognitive impairment is critical—and it shouldn't be limited to a clinic setting. With Anywhere, we're making clinical-grade brain health tools accessible at scale—whether you're a payer building a preventive care model, a wellness company promoting cognitive fitness, or an individual taking charge of your own brain health."

John Showalter, MD, MSIS, chief operating officer at Linus Health, added, “We've built our platform to be embedded anywhere—literally. Our API makes it simple for organizations to bring clinical-grade cognitive insights into their own digital ecosystems and workflows."

Linus also announced a partnership with healthcare consumer platform League in order to further expand its online cognitive screening and care options through private health plans.2 Patients accessing care options through League’s portal will now have access to Linus’ digital cognitive assessments and other educational materials.

In a press release, Bates said, “To effectively change the trajectory of Alzheimer's and other dementias, we must first identify individuals who are at risk but often overlooked, and connect them early to the resources that can make a real difference. Our collaboration with League will help millions of health plan members access proactive assessments and equip clinicians to intervene sooner—when it matters most."

League’s CEO Michael Serbinis added, “This collaboration offers an opportunity for payers to proactively address the escalating costs and profound impact of cognitive decline. By integrating Linus Health's advanced MCI and dementia detection capabilities within League's AI-powered CX platform, we will equip health plans with a scalable solution to identify at-risk members earlier, enable timely interventions, and ultimately drive significant improvements in member outcomes and population health management—while also delivering unprecedented member benefits that will improve millions of lives."

In June, Linus released the results of a study that looked into the ability of digital cognitive assessments to provide warnings for early signs of impairment.3 The study’s lead authors were David J. Libon, PhD, professor at the New Jersey Institute for Successful Aging at Rowan University and Rod Swenson, PhD, clinical professor of psychiatry and behavioral science at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

In a press release, Libon explained, “As our review demonstrates, just because an individual answers a question on a digital assessment 100% correctly does not mean a 0% risk of cognitive impairment. We have shown here that the time it takes to correctly respond or recruit the necessary brain regions or strategies for efficient correct responding likely provides rich information regarding the probability of the eventual emergence of serious cognitive decline."

Swenson added, “We hypothesize in this paper that a 7-minute Linus Health digital assessment supervised by an assistant can effectively replace hours of traditional, pen-and-paper testing conducted and interpreted by a neuropsychologist. This time savings and efficiency make Linus Health's platform imminently scalable for healthcare providers, supporting earlier, more precise clinical decision support without adding burden to busy clinical workflows."
